A 14-month-old in North Carolina died last week after reportedly being left in a hot vehicle.

Dayla Timms’ child was allegedly left unattended in a car outside The Suburban Extended Stay in Jacksonville. The child was pronounced dead at a hospital after responding police officers and firefighters performed life-saving measures, according to WITN.

It was 92 degrees in the car the toddler was left in, WNCT reported.

Timms, 27, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and child neglect inflicting serious bodily injury. Her bond was set at $50,000.

According to No Heat Stroke, the 14-month-old girl is the 23rd child to die in a hot car this year. In 2022, 33 children died of vehicular heatstroke.
