A Mississippi sheriff’s office cautioned residents last week to be careful when handling potentially “explosive or flammable substances” after a man died when a homemade bomb exploded.
Deputies responded to a home in the Bexley community late Thursday afternoon and found a 27-year-old man “with significant wounds from an apparent explosive device,” the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators “found paraphernalia associated with the making of homemade explosive devices” in the area.
“Sheriff (Keith) Havard would like to remind everyone of the dangers of mishandling fireworks, gunpowder, and other explosive or flammable substances,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Always use safe handling practices when working with or around these substances, and never leave them within reach of children.”

The man’s name has not been released, and the sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing.
