Missing Colorado Toddler With Autism Found Dead in Irrigation Canal

The body of a Colorado toddler who wandered away from home early Saturday has been found in an irrigation canal miles from his home.

Three-year-old Amari Galan was last seen around 4 a.m. wearing only a diaper, and investigators launched a desperate search in Rocky Ford that enlisted searchers from local and state agencies as well as volunteers, as CrimeOnline reported.

Amari had autism and was believed to has slipped out of the house and wandered off on foot.

“It is with great sadness that the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, along with Rocky Ford Police, the Otero County Sheriff’s Office and Otero County coroner, can confirm the discovery of a body in an irrigation canal earlier today is that of a 3-year-old boy who was reported missing Saturday morning,” the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said in a news release. “ … Law enforcement wishes to share its condolences with the family of Amari Galan.”

Investigators had focused on the Caitlin Canal, which runs directly behind the boy’s home. His body was found miles downstream late Sunday afternoon, CBI said.
