An Alabama mother who vanished earlier this week is believed to be deceased after a burned body was found with gunshot wounds, WBRC-TV reports.
Law enforcement in the state had previously issued a missing persons alert that said 31-year-old Jermiera Ivory Fowler was in danger. Fowler had been last seen on Wednesday around 4 p.m. in the 500 block of 41st Street North in Birmingham, according to AL.com.
Police initially said that Fowler, a mother of two, may have been planning to meet someone to buy an item from Facebook marketplace, however, police later said they could not confirm that detail.
Then around 9 p.m. Thursday, local authorities received a report of a body on fire in the 1000 block of Sellers Road, which is in a wooded part of the Roebuck area of Birmingham, according to ABC 33/40. Firefighters responded and extinguished the fire.
Police initially said it appeared the body of an adult woman was located with signs of trauma, WVTM-TV reports. Authorities later said the body had gunshot wounds and was set on fire, WBRC-TV reports, citing the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. The case is now being investigated as a homicide.
No arrests have been made.
Authorities described Fowler as 5-foot-6 and about 250 pounds, with shoulder-length hair. She may have been wearing a black dress and black shoes.
