82-Year-Old Vermont Woman Missing Under Suspicious Circumstances; Police Seek Public’s Help

Vermont State Police reported finding human remains they believe belong to an 82-year-old woman from Enosburgh who disappeared last week under suspicious circumstances.

In a press release late Sunday night, police stated they discovered the remains around 11 a.m. that day while searching for Roberta Martin in a wooded area off Sand Hill Road in Enosburgh. Sand Hill Road intersects with Butternut Hollow Road, where Martin had lived for the past 24 years, according to police.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Martin vanished on Wednesday from her home on Butternut Hollow Road. Neighbors checked on her just before noon and found she was nowhere to be found.

The last time Martin’s family heard from her was Tuesday evening.

The remains will be sent to the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington to confirm the identity and determine the cause and manner of death.

Police announced that no one had been taken into custody related to the investigation, Vtdigger reports.

Authorities executed a search warrant on Friday at a neighboring property to Martin’s residence, but state police didn’t give reasons for suspecting that Martin’s death is suspicious.

At a Thursday press briefing, Maj. Dan Trudeau, head of the state police criminal division, indicated that details about the evidence could not be disclosed.

The story is developing. Check back for updates.
