Marvel Cinematic Universe villain Echo is set to star in her own Disney+ miniseries which explores her mysterious relationship with her crime lord uncle Kingpin.

The show stars Hawkeye actress Alaqua Cox, 26, who will reprise her role as Maya Lopez AKA Echo, a deaf Native American martial arts expert.

A recently dropped trailer promises a gripping mixture of action and drama as Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin attempts to manipulate Echo into doing his evil bidding.

‘I see everything that you are. I always have. You have so much rage that you can’t contain it, you and I are the same,’ the notorious Marvel villain tells her.

It looks to be full of twists, with Echo getting into brutal fist and gun fights with a variety of nefarious characters throughout the city.

The show is a spin-off of the MCU series Hawkeye, which screened in 2021, and will star a number of familiar faces, including Charlie Cox reprising his role as blind superhero Daredevil.

Echo also stars Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez and Devery Jacobs as Julie.

According to a Marvel synopsis of the series, the storyline focuses on Maya Lopez as she ‘must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.’

D’Onofrio initially played the role of Wilson Fisk AKA Kingpin on Daredevil, which ran from 2015 – 2018.

The actor spoke about the role in an interview with TV Line last December and said the history of his character from Daredevil had continuity with what was depicted in Hawkeye.

‘That’s how I played him in that,’ he said, adding, ‘I think that was the general idea.’

He said of the character: ‘In the show he’s physically stronger and can take more abuse, but emotionally and as far as the history was discussed about what’s been going on, was done with connecting as many dots to Daredevil as possible.’
