A man wearing shorts emblazoned with the words ‘RUDE’ allegedly tried to rape a woman inside her apartment in New York City over the weekend.
Police said the man followed the 53-year-old woman into her building on the grounds of the Lillian Wald Houses on the Lower East Side around 9am Sunday, before forcing his way into her apartment.
He tried to rape the woman at knife point once inside, police added.
The suspect is ‘WANTED for attempted Rape in the vicinity of the Lillian Wald Houses,’ NYC Crime Stoppers posted on the organization’s Instagram page on Monday.

When confronted, he grabbed the victim’s cellphone and $20 cash and ran, officials said.
Emergency services took the woman to Beth Israel Medical Center for treatment, authorities said.
The crime took place in Lillian Wald Houses, a housing project on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
Rape and assaults in New York City are up at 8 and 19 per cent, respectively, since this time last year.
Photos taken from CCTV show the suspect wearing a silver head-wrap, a black T-shirt and chain around his neck.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
They are also offering a reward of up to $3,500 for any information that leads to the arrest of the suspect.
