A Missouri man is behind bars after he claimed to shoot at his wife to try to scare her but ended up hitting her five times and killing her, according to police.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded around 10:30 p.m. Saturday to a murder at a home in Lawson, a town about 40 miles northeast of Kansas City. The victim was found suffering from several gunshot wounds in her bedroom closet, according to a probable cause affidavit. Cops found five bullet casings near the victim’s body. The victim’s name is redacted from the affidavit, but local Fox affiliate WDAF identified her as 47-year-old Patty Neary.
