A Florida man who had just bailed out of jail after being arrested for domestic violence shot and killed his ex-wife before fleeing the scene and turning the gun on himself, according to police.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that Samuel Vaia, 33, wrecked his car in the early hours of the morning on Monday after he attempted to evade police who were searching for him after finding the body of his ex-wife, 38-year-old Ashley Vaia. Ashley Vaia was found by her teenage daughter and deputies reported to the family’s home in Deltona at around 2:22 a.m.

Samuel Vaia’s vehicle was tracked by law enforcement and spotted speeding northbound out of the county. As several law enforcement agencies closed in, Samuel Vaia crashed. Responders approached the vehicle and found their suspect inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
