An investigation has been launched after a man was found dead on Fletcher St (pictured) in Waverley, in Sydney's east, during the early hours of Sunday morning

A man has been killed in a suspected hit and run on a quiet street in Sydney’s east as police launch an investigation.

Emergency services were called to Fletcher Street in Tamarama just after 4am on Sunday after a man, believed to be in his 20s, was found critically injured on the road by a passer-by.

NSW Ambulance paramedics were unable to revive the man and he died at the scene. 

It is understood he suffered injuries to his upper body.

Police officers set up a crime scene, with officers from the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) called in to assist in the investigation.

Motorists are advised to avoid Fletcher Street between Glen and Silver Streets

The man has not yet been identified.
