A man has been arrested after a woman was found dead in a home in regional Victoria.

Emergency services were called to the Kangaroo Flat home near Bendigo shortly before midnight on Sunday.

A woman was found unresponsive  inside the home and she was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Two children of primary-school age were found at the home uninjured.

A Junortoun man 44 was arrested in Harcourt North a few hours later following a an extensive ground search by Victoria Police assisted by its air wing unit.

He’s currently assisting police with their inquiries.

Homicide squad detectives and forensic officers remain at the home on Monday morning, where a crime scene remains in place.
