Nika, who is the daughter of billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong, has added also added Palestine flag to her X profile as the war in Gaza continues

The daughter of the LA Times owner has displayed a Palestinian flag on her X profile, after claiming ‘it is not journalistic malpractice to call Israel an apartheid state’.

Nika Soon-Shiong shared a post to her X profile, formerly known as Twitter, saying: ‘It’s not journalistic malpractice to describe the state of Israel as an Apartheid state.

‘This is well-established in international law. It’s the legal term for unlawful killing, torture, forcible transfer, and denial of basic rights.’

Nika, who is the daughter of billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong, has added also added Palestine flag to her X profile as the war in Gaza continues.

According to a Politico article, the Stanford graduate was recently ‘actively involved’ with the LA Times and was accused by some staffers of ‘meddling’ to push her woke message.

The outlet reported that last year,  Soon-Shiong blasted an article written by a young reporter about a terrifying West Hollywood robbery to push her pro-defund the police stance.

Soon-Shiong has pushed for fewer cops even though parents live in a Four Seasons gated community in San Diego with heavy security.

In a since deleted post, Soon-Shiong suggested the Times was helping to ‘protect the Rolls-Royce and luxury watches’ while turning a blind eye to police ‘overcharging, manipulating crime stats, or lying about the cost per deputy’

Politico said the situation caused friction in the newsroom which was exacerbated when her parents appeared the next day to celebrate a Pulitzer Prize.

Outside of this, she also banned the word ‘looting’ from Times stories about looting during riots in summer 2020 according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

She openly objected to the use of the word in the wake of the death of George Floyd and subsequent widespread protests and riots, tweeting: ‘Absolutely the wrong messaging @latimes.’

LA Magazine reported that a newsroom committee announced it was putting a limit on the use of the word ‘looting’ over concerns of racial connotation.

In February 2021, the Wall Street Journal published an article saying her father was exploring a sale of the Times, to which she responded: ‘WSJ is 100% wrong.’

Politico said they head from more than three dozen current and former staffers that said the paper had experienced growing pains relating to its billionaire owner.

A graduate of Stanford University, Soon-Shiong was appointed to the City of West Hollywood Public Safety Commission in 2021.

During her time with the commission, she called to defund the LA Sheriff’s Department.

At the time, she said: ‘Police and law enforcement agencies are asked to do so many functions in society that they aren’t trained to do, and that real public safety means further investments in affordable housing, permanent supportive housing, mental health, alternative response teams.

‘These are solutions that we know work. That we know keep people safe.’

The city council ultimately voted in favor of eliminating four Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.
