A jealous father smashed up a stranger’s exclusive £300,000 Rolls-Royce with a shovel in a drunken rampage ‘driven by envy’.

Marcus Bounds, 33, smashed every window of a Starbucks franchise entrepreneur’s SUV, causing £110,000 worth of damage.

The father-of-four had taken a ‘cocktail of drink and drugs’ when he spotted the flashy Rolls-Royce Cullinan as he walked past the car park of the Magic Bean Company’s wealthy owner.

Prosecutor Brian Simpson said Bounds was captured on CCTV in the compound of the Swansea-based drive-thru coffee business.

Bounds was jailed for 22 months with a previously imposed eight-month suspended sentence being added on top, with the judge saying there was an element of ‘envy over the value and prestigious nature of the vehicle’.

The coffee shop entrepreneur arrived for work to discover the luxury car had been vandalised with every window smashed

A shovel with blood on the handle was found nearby – and a DNA sample matched Bounds.

Swansea Crown Court heard the damage is going to cost more than £110,000 to repair with the Rolls-Royce off the road for around a year as some parts such as window frames will have to be specially manufactured.

Bounds, of Treboeth, Swansea, pleaded guilty to criminal damage. He has 17 previous convictions for 35 offences.

In June last year he was sentenced to 16 months in prison suspended for 18 months for his part in a conspiracy to steal cars and number plates.

During the spree the gang brazenly stole some of the cars three times in a fortnight – including twice from the secure garages where police were storing them.

One of the gang even used a stolen car to go on holiday.

Dan Griffiths, defending, said he had a ‘significant deterioration’ in his mental health.

He said on the night at the attack in July he had taken a cocktail of drink and drugs and ‘found himself wandering the streets aimlessly in the early hours of the morning’.

He said Bounds had no recollection of the incident at the Magic Bean offices.

Recorder Simon Hughes described the attack on the Rolls-Royce as ‘wanton and spiteful targeted damage’.

The judge said there was no doubt in his mind that, in part, the incident had been motivated by ‘an element of envy over the value and prestigious nature of the vehicle’.

Bounds was sentenced to 22 months in prison and the judge activated eight months of the previously imposed suspected sentence to run consecutively making an overall sentence of 30 months in prison.
