Police in Rome, Georgia, say the mother of seven children has died after her ex-boyfriend shot and killed her Wednesday morning at a Chick-fil-A restaurant.

According to the Rome Police Department, Cassie Davis (pictured) was at Truett’s Chick-fil-A on Shorter Avenue in Rome early Wednesday morning when a man identified as 56-year-old Anthony Green fatally shot her. Green then fatally shot himself at the scene and died.

“He just wouldn’t leave her alone,” the victim’s mother, Kathie Walters, told Fox 5 Atlanta. “That’s one thing she told me yesterday, that he was following her around.”

“She didn’t have a mean bone in her body. She was everybody’s friend.”

AJC reports that the gunman drove to Chik-fil-A, got out of his car, and walked over to Davis, who had pulled into the drive-thru to order breakfast. Floyd County Deputy Coroner Chris Giles said Green went to the passenger side window and fired three shots at Davis.

Davis’ foot slipped off her car brake when the bullets struck, causing the vehicle to roll forward and hit a power box. The vehicle then rolled down an embankment and into traffic.

Police said the restaurant had nothing to do with the shooting. The general manager released a statement on Wednesday, following the incident.

“Rome Community, a horrific incident occurred outside our restaurant this morning,” Greg Major said.

“We are currently cooperating with the police who are investigating. No other guests or team members were hurt but we mourn with the community. We have closed the restaurant for the day to repair and care for team members. Thank you for your patience during this time; we plan to reopen (Thursday).”

Davis leaves behind children who range in age from five to 18.
