A husband allegedly pushed his wheelchair-bound wife off a harbour wall in Japan before reportedly confessing his crime to the police soon after.

Hiroshi Fujiwara, 81, is reported to have pushed his disabled wife into the sea and left her to drown outside of their home town of Oisu, 35 miles south of Tokyo.

The married couple lived alone in a flat on the seaside town, with Teruko Fujiwara only receiving help from her husband.

Hiroshi said he was ‘tired’ of taking care of her after more than 40 years of marriage, according to Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun.

Police received a call at 7am from the couple’s son, saying: ‘My father said he pushed my mother (into the sea).’

He said Hiroshi wheeled his wife along the pier before tipping her into the sea last Wednesday.

Afterward, he drove to his eldest son’s nearby house and confessed the murder.

The couple’s son, who lives in another part of Oiso, called the police to report his father’s crime.

A fisherman reported seeing a body floating in the sea, according to Japanese  media.

Police arrested Hiroshi the next day after dragging his wife’s body out of the water.

One nieghbour who knew the family said she was shocked.

‘He is friendly and often gave a ride to his wife, who I understand was bed-ridden,” said the woman.

‘He was devoted to his wife, and there was nothing to suggest (he could kill her), but I guess he was struggling inside.’
