Jailed Quadruple Murderer Strangles Wife Dead During Unsupervised Conjugal Visit

A quadruple murderer who is serving a life sentence at a California prison allegedly strangled his wife during an unsupervised visit last year.

Amador County Sheriff Gary Redman and Amador County prosecutor Todd Riebe told The Sacramento Bee that Stephanie Brinson, 62, was strangled on November 12 during a conjugal visit with her husband, David Brinson, 54, at Mule Creek State Prison. David Brinson is serving life without parole for fatally shooting four men execution-style during a 1990 robbery.

KCRA reported that Stephanie Brinson’s death occurred overnight at the prison which allows private visits in apartment-like facilities on the property. These visits can last up to 40 hours.

Corrections officials told KCRA  that David Brinson used a phone in one of the facilities to tell officers that his wife was unconscious. She was pronounced dead an hour later.

Inmates in California who are on death row, convicted of sex offenses, and recently admitted or transferred to prison are barred from having unsupervised family visits. Prisoners who are facing disciplinary action are also ineligible for family visits.

Riebe told The Sacramento Bee that they are waiting for a completed report from Mule Creek prison before formally charging David Brinson. Riebe said that they are also awaiting a completed autopsy report.
