A Iowa man has been jailed for shooting the parents of his ex-girlfriend as they were helping their daughter move out of the home she shared with him.
Ruth Robison, 45, was killed in the shooting, and Tony Robison, 52, is in critical condition, KCCI reported.
Polk County deputies were called to the Des Moines home shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday and found the Robisons suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to hospitals, where Ruth Robison succumbed to her injuries.
Deputies arrested 24-year-old Hamza Smajlovic, charging him with first degree murder, attempted murder, and intimidation with a weapon, according to jail records.
The Des Moines Register said Smajlovic shot Ruth Robison in the head once with a 9mm pistol, citing the criminal complaint against him. The complaint says that he also shot Tony Robison in the head and fired “a live 9mm round into an occupied residence at the (ex-girlfriend) while in the commission of a murder and attempted murder of two other victims in the home at the time of the shooting.”
The sheriff’s department said that Smajlovic and the daughter had recently ended their relationship, and her parents were helping her move out of his home.
Smajlovic is being held on a $750,000 bond and has been ordered to have no contact with the ex-girlfriend.
