Richard Ramirez: The Night Stalker Tapes will hear serial killer Ramirez in his own words

A chilling new Peacock documentary is set to expose the mindset of serial killer Richard Ramirez through extensive audio interviews.

Between June 1984 and August 1985, Ramirez – who was also known as the Night Stalker – carried out a series of violent crimes which at first seemed random and left many believing they were the work of multiple people.

The devil worshipper killed at least 13 people during his killing spree and left many more injured.

Peacock’s upcoming docuseries, titled Richard Ramirez: The Night Stalker Tapes, will explore the killer’s twisted crimes through exclusive interviews.

The trailer gives a flavor of Ramirez’s sickening psyche, with the murderer admitting, in his own words, that there is ‘no thrill like a good kill.’

‘You don’t understand me, I am beyond good and evil,’ he declares in another moment, before adding: ‘Satan is a stabilizing force in my life.’

When asked whether he thinks evil can be reincarnated, Ramirez hysterically laughs as he responds, ‘I hope so.’

Besides hearing the killer in his own words, the new documentary will also shine a light on how a ‘perfect storm of twisted boyhood influences and drug addiction enabled a troubled young man from El Paso, Texas, to become one of the most infamous serial killers in history.’

The two-part series also features rare footage of his bride on their 1996 wedding eve, video interviews with his victims’ family members, former friends, female admirers and relatives who have never told their stories in a documentary format, the synopsis reveals.

‘Together, these elements offer an unsettling and thought-provoking look into the mind of a brutal serial killer through those who knew him best,’ it reads.

The series holds a mirror up to reflect the culture of fandom in the 1980s, which turned a maniacal killer into a serial killer rock star for legions of fans who became obsessed with him.

During his reign of horror, Ramirez broke into homes and assaulted residents, and in some cases kidnapped and molested children before letting them go.

What made him so difficult to catch was the apparent randomness of his crimes, with some adults having been raped and killed, while his victims were of all ages, genders and races.

Additionally, the weapons Ramirez used varied between knives, guns and blunt objects.

Who was Richard Ramirez?

Born in 1960, Richard Ramirez was a serial killer who was eventually found guilty of 13 cases of murder.

His crime spree in Los Angeles during the summer of 1985 led to him being dubbed the Night Stalker.

He grew up in El Paso, Texas, in an allegedly abusive household and was heavily influenced by his cousin, Miguel, who had fought in the Vietnam War.

His cousin told him about the torture and human mutilation he had witnessed during the fighting.

Ramirez was even present when Miguel fatally shot his wife in the face.

After dropping out of school, Ramirez developed a drug habit and started following Satanism before turning to crime.

His initial crimes started smaller, with petty thefts, before developing into murder, rape and kidnapping.

He was eventually caught in Los Angeles after being spotted by members of the public who recognized him from the police appeals.

After attempting multiple carjacks he became surrounded by a crowd of bystanders who beat and restrained him until the police arrived.

He was found guilty of 13 counts of murder, five attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults and 14 burglaries.

Although sentenced to death, Ramirez died of natural causes while on death row in 2013.

He would climb through open windows and doors in the early hours of the morning and ransack valuables as well as rape and kill his victims, leaving gruesome crime scenes often marking them with pentagrams.

While behind bars, Ramirez formed a relationship with Doreen Lioy, whom he eventually married in 1996 at California’s San Quentin State Prison.

For many years before Ramirez’ death, she stated that she would commit suicide when Ramirez was executed.

By the time of his death in 2013, Ramirez was engaged to a 23-year-old writer.

Ramirez was convicted and sentenced to death in 1989. He died aged 53 while awaiting execution in 2013.
