A 20-year-old Michigan woman was arrested last week after an infant and a toddler were found abandoned outside a high school in Madison Heights.
Police did not say if the woman is the children’s mother and have not identified her, WDIV reported.
A driving instructor for the Official Driving School found the children on July 15 when he stopped at Lamphere High School for a break. John Belyea said he heard strange noises that he initially took to be fighting cats but then realized they were the sounds of a child.
He searched the area and found a 4-week-old baby and a 2-year-old child in car seats behind a brick wall. He called 911, and first responders quickly arrived, whisking the children off to a hospital for observation. They were reported in stable condition.
Police said a note was found with the children, but they have not revealed its contents.
Police said on Thursday they had identified the children’s parents and taken the 20-year-old woman into custody. Child Protective Services was also contacted, they said.
