A 1-year-old in Washington reportedly died on Wednesday after being left in a car for nine hours.
KING reported that the foster mother was working at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup and had left the baby in the car. Police said the mother somehow became distracted, which led to the baby being left in the car during her shift.
After finishing her shift, the foster mother realized the baby had been left in the car all day and rushed them into the hospital. However, the baby had already died.
KING reported that temperatures in the car reached triple digits despite it being in the 70s that day. The baby’s death is under investigation.
According to No Heat Stroke, the 1-year-old is the fourth child to die in a hot car this year. In 2022, 33 children died of vehicular heatstroke.
