‘I need everybody to know he’s not a runaway’: Community Rallies to Search for Missing Michigan Teen

Police in Michigan are searching for a missing teen who disappeared from the Grand Rapids area.

Cortez McConer Sr., 16, vanished from his Grand Rapids home. It remains unclear when he was last seen. Kisha Haggerty, Cortez’s mother, expressed deep concern and described her son’s disappearance as “very, very scary,” according to WoodTV 8.

Family, friends, and community members organized a search party on Saturday in an effort to locate Cortez.

“The community has turned out tremendously,” Haggerty said. “They just keep reposting, keep sharing his posts. We had a very good turnout for the search today,” Fox 17 reported.

Haggerty emphasized that her son is not a runaway, but a missing child.

“I need everybody to know he’s not a runaway,” Haggerty said. “He’s a missing child. Once that’s out there, we get the help we need from the community.”

Grand Rapids police have received numerous tips about the teen’s last known location and are working closely with his family and other law enforcement agencies to ensure his safe return.

Haggerty also made a heartfelt plea for her son to come home.

“Babe, come home. We miss you so much,” she said. “I promise I won’t be upset. Just come home. We miss you. We miss you so badly. Please come home to us.”

Anyone with information about Cortez McConer’s location is asked to contact GRPD detectives at (616) 456-3380 or Silent Observer at (616) 774-2345.
