A Florida woman landed herself in jail after she allegedly broke into her ex-husband’s home and tried to stab him with a fillet knife as he slept.
The victim told police that he awoke at his Bunnell home around 3:48 a.m. on Friday to find his ex-wife, Melinda Gould, 40, standing in his room with a knife in her hand, according to a probable cause affidavit. Gould had actually called the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office about an hour earlier to say that she woke up at her home in Ormond Beach from a dream in which gunshots were being fired at the Bunnell house where her kids were staying.
A deputy responded to the house and didn’t see anything suspicious. When the deputy called Gould to tell her what he saw, she allegedly said, “go f— yourself.” She then apparently went to investigate herself.
After the victim called 911, deputies responded to the home and found the victim holding Gould down on the ground. Deputies also found the knife she allegedly used, the affidavit said. The victim told deputies he was in bed with his girlfriend and he woke up to see Gould standing about a foot from his bed with the knife. He then pinned her to the ground. He said it was traumatizing for his kids to see their mother holding a knife toward their father in a threatening manner.
Deputies then put Gould in handcuffs and took her to a cruiser. Body-worn camera footage obtained by Orlando Fox affiliate WOFL shows Gould saying “I just had to scare him” as they were leading her from the house. She had already been barred from coming to the home after she was trespassed, deputies said.
During an interview, she told them she tried to buy a gun from a neighbor but was unsuccessful, the affidavit said. When asked what she would have done if she had the gun, she allegedly said she would have “blown his brains out and not thought twice about it.” Gould also said she “would have shot the girl if she came at me,” the affidavit said.
She told investigators she came to the house to check on the kids, and the door was unlocked, so she walked in, deputies wrote.
“Without regard for the safety of her children and other members of the household this deranged woman tried everything to kill or inflict physical harm on her former spouse,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in a statement. “Let it go instead of risking going to prison. There is a reason you broke up. You need to accept it and understand acting like this is not good for your children or yourself. Hopefully, she will take advantage of our many programs to learn how to effectively deal with her anger issues.”
Deputies arrested Gould on charges of aggravated assault, armed burglary of a dwelling and two counts of child abuse mental injury. They took her to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.
Her alleged bad behavior didn’t stop while she was in jail. Two days after the incident, deputies said she allegedly tried to throw a tablet at a fellow inmate. She’s now in jail without bond.
