A Florida man was sentenced this week after authorities learned he was married to three women at the same time – with none of them aware of the others until long after legal procedures played out.

Henry Betsey Jr., 50, pleaded “nolo contendere” to felony bigamy in May, meaning he neither accepted nor denied responsibility for the charge but accepted the penalty.

On Thursday, he was sentenced to two years probation, according to Hernando County court records. He will be registered as a convicted felon.

Michele Narens and Henry Betsey were married in Hernando County on Nov. 23, 2022, WFTS, Tampa Bay”s ABC affiliate, reported. The new wife said they met on Match.com and quickly hit it off, getting married within three weeks.

Everything changed when she realized he was still married to another woman.

Brandy Allen had married Henry Betsey on Feb. 22, 2022, in Manatee County, Florida, according to their marriage license reviewed by Law&Crime. They, too, are said to have met on a dating app – this time, Stir, a platform meant for single parents.

“He said all the right things,” noted the woman who had legally become Brandy Betsey. “We got married right there at the courthouse, no questions asked. There was nothing that was flagged in the system for him having already two prior open marriage licenses.”

Allen told WFTS the whole process took 15 minutes. But, even then, before Michele Betsey was in the picture, there was another woman to whom Henry Betsey had given his last name. And it is said to have been Tonya Betsey who realized last year what her husband had done.

Tonya Betsey and Henry Betsey reportedly tied the knot in Duval County, Florida, in the November of 2020 after meeting on Tinder. “The way he portrayed himself, he sold the perfect person,” she told the local outlet, “when in reality he was none of those things.”

Michele Betsey said Tonya Betsey found her and messaged her.

“And I had no idea that she was still married to him,” the newest wife said.

Henry Betsey was arrested in Seminole County, Florida, when, on Oct. 23, 2024, he arrived at the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office’s headquarters and “advised that he was currently wanted and wished to turn himself in,” court documents in the county state.

The women reportedly believed he married them for money, not love.

“The day we got married, he said, ‘We need to make your bank account a joint bank account,'” Brandy Betsey told WFTS.

According to the local TV station, Henry ended up filing for divorce from Tonya after his arrest and is working to annul his other two marriages. While he apologized in court to the women and everyone involved during Thursday’s hearing, Michele Betsey didn’t believe it was genuine.

“The fact that he is now a convicted felon, that speaks mountains. And I feel like that is vindication on our parts,” she said. “Do I think that he has any remorse? Absolutely not.”
