Husband Who Killed Pregnant Wife Because ‘He Wanted a Boy’ Learns Fate

A New York man who pleaded guilty to stabbing his pregnant wife to death and seriously injured his 6- and 9-year-old daughters has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Drew Garnier’s three-decade prison sentence will be followed by 15 years of post-release supervision, and he is barred from contacting his duaghters until at least 2056, according to the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office.

Samantha Garnier and couple’s unborn daughter died in the September 4, 2024, stabbing. Drew Garnier pleaded guilty to manslaughter and aggravated assault in March in a deal that District Atttorney Shawn J. Smith said wasn’t perfect but “spared the children the trauma of trial and would permit them to focus on recovering from their ordeal.”

Samantha Garnier’s father, who has adopted the surviving daughters, read an impact statement at the sentencing hearing saying he believed his son-in-law killed his daughter upon learning that their child was another girl. “He had wanted a boy,” the father said.

Of his granddaughters, he said, “I am their father now. I will protect them.”

Garnier had requested that Judge John L. Hubbard allow him to contact the girls, but he agreed with the DA’s objection and granted “full stay away orders with expiration dates in the year 2056.”
