A high-profile executive who led the campaign against Sydney’s controversial lockout laws has been charged with multiple counts of rape.
David Mark Hempton, 49, was arrested by police at Waverley, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, on September 22.
Documents tendered to Waverley Local Court allege the former high-flying business executive sexually assaulted a 22-year-old woman at his Rose Bay apartment on July 13.
Hempton is a well-known businessman who ran Bondi Mermaids and led a grassroots campaign lobbying against the lockout laws in Sydney.

Court documents allege the former banker and stocks consultant sexually assaulted and sexually touched the woman between July and August, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
NSW Police will allege Hempton met the woman online while he was looking to rent out his apartment.
Police launched an investigation after the young woman reported the alleged incidents on August 28.

Hempton was charged with four counts of sexual intercourse without consent (domestic violence related).
The 49-year-old was also charged with six counts of sexually touching another person without consent.
Hempton was granted bail by Waverley Local Court. He has not entered a plea, according to court documents.
Hempton’s bail conditions include that he must not advertise any accommodation.

Should he fail to comply with his bail conditions a person of reasonable character who is known Hempton will need to fork out $50,000 in surety.
Hempton is a well known Sydney businessman who played an influential role in campaigning against Sydney’s lockout laws.
He claimed he was part of setting up the ‘Don’t Punish Us Campaign’ in 2009, a grassroots campaign that aims to reduce the extent to which alcohol and drug users are punished under the law.
He also had business interests with his brother John Hempton who is a senior hedge fund manager. John Hempton is not accused of wrongdoing.
