A woman has died in a boating incident on the Hawkesbury River.

Emergency services were called to Bar Point, on the NSW Central Coast, at about 7.50am on Wednesday following reports a woman was missing. 

A 44-year-old woman was pulled unresponsive from the water after police attached to the Marine Area Command spotted an empty boat at the scene.

Officers gave the woman first aid before she was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, she died at the scene.

An investigation into the circumstances of the incident has been launched with a report to be prepared for the Coroner. 

Anyone with information about the incident has been urged to call Crime Stoppers.
