Gunman Kills 2, Wounds 2 at Kentucky Church After Shooting State Trooper

A Kentucky mother and daughter were killed and their husbands injured on Sunday when a man who knew the victims the opened fire at their church.

Guy House, 47, earlier shot and wounded a Kentucky State trooper near Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport before driving to Richmond Road Baptist Church, CBS News reported. There, family members of the victims said, he was looking for the mother of his three children. When told she wasn’t there, the family members said, he responded,” I guess someone is going to have to die.”

He shot and killed Beverly Gumm, the 72-year-old mother of the woman he was looking for, and another of her daughters, 34-year-old Christina Combs. He wounded Gumm’s husband — James Gumm, pastor of the church — and Combs’ husband.

Lexington Police shot and killed House.

Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said the incident began when the state trooper pulled House over near the airport. House shot the trooper and fled, then carjacked another vehicle in the parking lot of Sayre Christian Village, WKYT reported.  That woman got inside safely, and no one was hurt in the incident. But House drove on to the church.

Police have not provided a motive for the shooting.

The trooper and the two other wounded victims were taken to a local hospital, where the trooper and one of the victims were said to be in stable condition, according to CBS. The other victim was in critical condition.
