The guardian father has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 8-year-old Jaylin Schwarz, who was forced to jump on a trampoline in extreme Texas heat as punishment.
Daniel Schwarz, 49, entered his plea on Friday as part of a plea deal and will receive an 18-year prison sentence, according to KWTX.
KWTX reported that Schwarz’s wife, Ashley Schwarz, was sentenced to capital murder in 2023 for her role in Jaylin’s death, receiving three life sentences.
Both Daniel and Ashley Schwarz were Jaylin’s legal guardians at the time of her death and represented themselves as her parents.
As previously reported by CrimeOnline, the Odessa Police Department stated on October 12, 2020, that Daniel and Ashley Schwarz were charged with capital murder. WLTX reported that the couple is accused of killing Jaylin, who police said died on August 29 after being deprived of food and water and forced to jump on a trampoline for an extended period.
An autopsy determined Jaylin’s cause of death was dehydration, with homicide listed as the manner of death.
On the day Jaylin died, the couple allegedly punished her by withholding breakfast. Police said they made her jump on the trampoline and did not provide her with water after she stopped jumping.
“A search warrant was later obtained, and the temperature of the trampoline was recorded at approximately 110 degrees, while the ground was about 150 degrees,” police said in the statement.
