Police in California are investigating the deaths of a woman and her 6-year-old grandson as homicides.
San Jose Police officers responded to a request for a welfare check early Friday afternoon at the apartment in the Buena Vista neighborhood of West San Jose and found the woman and the boy dead, KPIX reported.
KTVU reported that the woman was in her 70s and that both victims were shot to death, citing a family member. The family member said that the suspect is the uncle of the boy and the nephew of the woman who was killed. It’s not clear if anyone is in custody.
Investigators aren’t releasing much information about the case so far, but one neighbor told KPIX he heard someone yelling, “He’s dead! He’s dead!” shortly after noon.
Officers responded to a welfare check at a residence in the 1600 block of Parkmoor Ave where they located two deceased individuals.

The neighbor, Jose Sanchez, said that the little boy was well known in the neighborhood.
Everybody knew that little boy because he’s always running around playing with other kids, always being really loud,” Sanchez said.
Sanchez said he spoke with the boy on Thursday. It’s sad. He’s young. He had his whole life ahead of him,” Sanchez said.
