A group of girls who beat a 64-year-old Washington D.C. man to death took selfies after recording the fatal attack, prosecutors said in a report from Washington D.C. CBS affiliate WUSA. The hearing on Friday did not go smoothly. One of the girls, who was recently arrested for the incident, reportedly punched a deputy U.S. Marshal and was removed in a stretcher.
Officers have yet to identify or arrest a grown man seen on video initiating the fatal attack on victim Reggie Brown, 64.
As previously reported, officers said they responded Oct. 17, 2023, at approximately 12:54 p.m. to the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest. There, they found Brown suffering from blunt force trauma.
“He died at the scene,” they wrote.
Across March 28 and 29, cops arrested two 13-year-old girls and a 12-year-old for second-degree murder. (That 12-year-old recently sustained a gunshot wound in the leg mere hours before her arrest, a source told D.C.’s CW affiliate WDCW in a March 29 report.)
There was no sign that Brown knew the girls, Detective Harry Singleton testified in court back on March 29, according to NBC Washington.
Brown, who was physically handicapped, missed fingers on both hands and experienced ongoing ailments, was “escorted” across Georgia Avenue by a man wearing a blue coat, the detective reportedly said.

That man in the blue coat then attacked Brown, throwing him against a wall and knocking him to the ground, the detective said.
Eventually, a group of girls, who had been walking on Georgia Avenue, allegedly got involved. One of them asked the man if she could “fight him too,” Singleton testified.
Brown got up and tried to escape, but the girls kicked and stomped on him, then they left in a “celebratory” mood, as seen on the cellphone footage, according to the testimony.
Singleton said that detectives in the monthslong investigation went frame by frame on available surveillance and cellphone footage to try to identify the suspects.
“Reggie was a person who stayed to himself,” Brown’s family said in a statement. “Never bothered anyone and was well known in the community as he grew up in the Brightwood neighborhood for 64 years.”
Police announced on Thursday that they arrested a 13-year-old girl and 15-year-old girl for the incident, making them the fourth and fifth arrests. It was that 13-year-old who allegedly punched the deputy U.S. Marshal in court on Friday.
Officers have yet to identify or arrest an adult suspect in the murder.
