Developing: Georgia Teen Charged with First-Degree Murder Nearly 5 Months After Mother and Stepfather’s Deaths

A 17-year-old Georgia teen, accused of killing her mother and stepfather, will be charged as an adult, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said this week.

During a July 8 press conference, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ashley Hulsey said Sarah Grace Patrick is facing two murder charges and two aggravated assault charges for the deaths of 36-year-old Kristen Brock and 45-year-old James Brock

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Patrick contacted emergency services on February 20 after her 6-year-old sister found the couple shot inside their residence in the 1500 block of Tyus Carrollton Road in the rural Tyus community.

Police stated there were no signs of a break-in at the residence, but one of the doors had been left open.

“We don’t know what goes through the mind of a child who wants to harm their parents,” Hulsey said.

The sheriff’s office said that Patrick’s father brought her to the county jail Tuesday morning to turn herself in, months after allegedly calling 911 to report the killings.

“Her family has been very cooperative… I can’t imagine what they are going through,” Hulsey added.

Prior to the arrest, Patrick reportedly gave a tearful eulogy at the victims’ funerals, then shared grief-filled posts on social media.

“I can’t tell you if she had real tears. I wasn’t there to see it in person,” Hulsey tod Banfield on Thursday. “But it seemed odd. It was more like a speech, and at the end she said, ‘I’m sorry.’

“Was that, ‘I’m sorry because I may have done this,’ or is it, ‘I’m sorry because I was upset during this eulogy’? We may never know the answer to that, but that did stand out to me at the time.”

Meanwhile, the defendant’s grandfather, Dennis Nolan, stated that Patrick and Sarah had a “great relationship.” He said Brock’s criminal history possibly played a part in the killings.

Patrick is currently the only one charged in the case, but the sheriff’s office said “additional arrests are possible as new evidence comes to light,” according to USA Today.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 770-830-5935.
