Georgia Teen Shot Dead by Ex-Boyfriend After He Kidnapped Her From Job

A Georgia man kidnapped his ex-girlfriend from her job in Fayette County Sunday night and then shot her to death when police caught up with him in the next county over.

Investigators have not released the name of the 19-year-old victim but said 20-year-old Cameron Ja’Michael Hopkins was charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault by police in Fayetteville, WSB reported. The death investigation is being handled by Clayton County, where the chase ended.

Police said Hopkins entered the Wingstop where the victim worked at about 11 p.m. Sunday and forced her to leave with him at gunpoint. Witnesses said they left in a red Camaro, which officers later spotted and began to follow.

Hopkins attempted to flee, but officers eventually initiated a PIT maneuver at the entrance to Lovejoy High School in Clayton County, according to WAGA. Hopkins fired on officers who approached, however, forcing them to back off and regroup.

During the standoff, officers heard multiple shots from inside the Camaro. They eventually fired a chemical irritant into the car, which prompted Hopkins to get out. He was taken into custody, but officers found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds inside the vehicle. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
