A Georgia man learned his fate after a Cherokee County, Alabama, jury found him guilty on capital murder charges, three years after two sisters were found killed and tossed under a bridge.
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Desmond Lavonta Brown has been sentenced to life in prison following a November 21 conviction on two counts of murder. He is one of three people arrested for the deaths of Vanita Richardson, 19, and her sister, Truvenia Campbell, 30.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, three GDOT workers found the sisters with plastic bags over their heads, under an East Rome bypass bridge in Georgia, south of Grizzard Park, in May 2020.
During the trial, prosecutors revealed that Brown thought the victims had stolen his wallet at a birthday party. Along with two other men, Brown tracked the victims down and shot them both multiple times. The men then disposed of the sisters by dropping their bodies under the bridge.
It was later determined that the victims had not stolen Brown’s wallet, which was eventually found sitting by a television set at his home off Cave Spring Street in Floyd County.
The two other men were identified as Devin Lashawn Watts and Christopher Leedarius Pullen. Both defendants are currently behind bars awaiting trial, charged with felony murder and related offenses.
Brown’s case was ultimately tried in Alabama when investigators learned that the victims had been killed in the state before they were brought to the bridge.

“The families of the victims have been diligent during this process. They loved Vanita and Truvenia and are committed to seeing the process through. Many people do not realize how difficult this process is on families who have lost their loved ones in a brutal and horrific way.”
