Georgia Baby Dies After Being Found ‘Unresponsive’ in Daycare Bouncy Seat

A 6-month-old baby girl was found unresponsive in her bouncy seat at a Georgia daycare last week and died five days later.

Statesboro Police Captain Jared Akins said autopsy results and other detailed information will likely take several months, WTOC reported.

“It is a very lengthy process, and I know that’s not what any family member wants to hear, that’s not what friends want to hear. Those are just things that we have to go through to make sure we are thorough,” he said.

Police said they were called to the Pittman Park Church Education Center on February 12. The baby girl, identified as Lennon Sammons, was taken to Memorial Hospital in Savannah, where she died on Monday.

A statement from the state Department of Early Care and Learning, which oversees daycare organizations, said that initial reports indicated that the little girl was put in the bouncy seat “and later became unresponsive while being attended to by staff.”

Reverend Dr. Jonathan Smith, senior pastor at Pittman Park United Methodist Church, issued a statement saying the church and daycare facility were “working closely with all necessary agencies to navigate this situation with care, compassion, and sensitivity.”
