A North Carolina man who allegedly poisoned his wife and 10-year-old daughter with eye drops was ordered to remain behind bars Monday, with prosecutors calling him a danger to his children and in-laws, who successfully demanded that his bail be revoked.
Joshua Hunsucker — a paramedic at the time of his wife’s poisoning — is accused of using a toxic chemical ingredient in Visine eye drops called tetrahydrozoline to murder 32-year-old Stacy Hunsucker in 2018 and then hospitalize their daughter in 2023, according to Gaston County prosecutors.
Stacy Hunsucker’s parents, John and Suzie Robinson, have been thrust into the criminal and legal spotlight by their son-in-law after he accused them of being behind Stacy’s death and his daughter’s poisoning, allegedly harassing the pair and staging his own kidnapping.
The Robinsons were in court on Monday when a Gaston County judge revoked Joshua Hunsucker’s bond, per a motion request they filed in August, when Hunsucker was accused of his daughter’s poisoning, per WSOC. The former medic had been out on a $1.5 million bond that he posted in December 2019 just before Christmas for his wife’s alleged murder.
Stacy Hunsucker, the mother of his two children, died from a cardiac arrest at her North Carolina home after the alleged poisoning. Her death was initially believed to be the result of natural causes due to reported heart issues she suffered from, but there was no way to know for sure at first since Joshua Hunsucker had requested that there be no autopsy performed on his wife — and a swift cremation.
Stacy Hunsucker, however, was an organ donor and her husband’s alleged intentions were revealed through organ and blood testing, according to prosecutors.
On Monday, it was argued that Hunsucker needed to remain locked up due to his alleged treatment of the Robinsons and his children in recent years. He is accused of harassing and following the couple, intimidating them, and child abuse against his two kids, ages 9 and 11.

In 2023, the Mount Holly Police Department received a report from Hunsucker alleging that John Robinson had attacked and kidnapped him.
“He reported that he stopped to change a flat tire and was pistol-whipped in the head multiple times,” the police report said, according to local Fox affiliate WJZY. “His hands were then zip tied and he was injected with an unknown substance.”
Hunsucker is also accused of blaming his wife and daughter’s poisonings on the Robinsons, even though police say there is no evidence linking them to the crimes.
“The poisoning of (Hunsucker’s daughter) was once again done with an attempt (to) implicate Mr. and Mrs. Robinson in the death of his wife and remove the Robinsons from the lives of his daughters,” the motion to revoke Hunsucker’s bond reads.
While Hunsucker was ordered to be held without bond on the first-degree murder charge, he did receive a $25,000 bond for his new charges related to his daughter’s poisoning and harassment of the Robinsons, which include four counts of intimidation of a witness and four counts of obstruction of justice. The judge overseeing his case noted Monday that even if Hunsucker — who is facing insurance fraud and first-degree murder charges for his wife’s death — is able to make bail, he won’t be released.
