Former NFL Player Missing: Mother Found Murdered, Dead in Creek with ‘Multiple injuries due to assault’

Police in Illinois are investigating the disappearance of former NFL player Sergio Brown and the violent death of his mother.

Family members notified Maywood police on Saturday that they were unable to contact Sergio or his 73-year-old mother, Myrtle Brown. Police later found Myrtle dead in a creek near her suburban Maywood home, according to NBC News.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Officer ruled her death a homicide Sunday afternoon, saying she “multiple injuries due to assault,” the Chicago Tribune reports.

Sergio Brown, who previously played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, remains missing.

“My brother Sergio is still missing,” Nick Brown wrote on Instagram. “If anyone knows where he is I want him to know that I love you and please come home.”

“It’s a sad but hopeful time, and we will all get through this together,” Nick Brown continued. “Mom always told me, ‘tough times don’t last’ and our last conversation about tough times being temporary is my beacon of hope.

“Mom, thank you for being strong, caring, diligent, fancy, funny, and for saving my art. I won’t let you down.”

Before his NFL career, Sergio Brown played for the University of Notre Dame. He entered the NFL in 2010 as an undrafted free agent with the New England Patriots, CNN reports. Over the course of 7 NFL seasons, Brown also played for the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills.
