A jury convicted Sarah Boone of second-degree murder in the suitcase death of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr. Boone called 911, claiming she and Torres had been “playing around” before she fell asleep. When she woke up the next morning, she found Torres dead inside the suitcase.
Boone’s account, however, was contradicted by evidence. While it is unclear how she convinced the 42-year-old to climb into the suitcase, video footage on her phone showed Boone zipping him inside and taunting him as he begged for release, repeatedly saying he couldn’t breathe.
Boone claimed the couple had been drinking wine and decided to play hide-and-seek. Court records revealed Torres had been trapped in the suitcase for about three hours before Boone said she fell asleep. The next day, she allegedly remembered Torres was still in the suitcase, unzipped it, and found him unresponsive with purple discoloration. She attempted CPR but called her ex-husband before contacting 911.
Boone, 46, was found guilty of second-degree murder in Torres’s death.
