A 30-year-old Florida woman was charged with manslaughter this week after a 4-month-old child died while co-sleeping with her.

The Gulfport Police Department said it was the second time a child in the care of Nicole Iannone died while co-sleeping, WFLA reports.

Arrest documents say Iannone was sleeping with the 4-month-old tucked in the bend of her arm on Monday. When she awoke, she found the child not breathing and called 911.

The child was pronounce dead less than an hour later.

Investigators said Iannone “had a previous child die approximately 1.5 years ago and was approximately two months old at the time of his death. It was determined that this previous child also died in almost the exact same circumstance while co-sleeping with [Iannone],” according to the documents.

Iannone reportedly admitted that doctors and other medical professionals warned her of the dangers of co-sleeping, but she “continued to willingly and knowingly co-sleep with [the baby] even after the consequences of the first child’s death.”

According to jail records, Iannone is being held on a $250,000 bond.

The American Academy of Pediatrics says that co-sleeping “should be avoided at all times” with full-term, normal weight babies younger than 4 months.
