Florida Mom Arrested: Jumped from Interstate Ramp After Twins Found Unresponsive in Car

A Florida mom who jumped from an interstate ramp in an apparent suicide attempt after her 3-year-old twins were found unresponsive in a nearby car has been arrested but is not facing murder charges.

Shirlene Napoleon Alcime, 42, has been charged with two counts of child neglect causing great bodily harm, WTVJ reported.

Police did say that more charges could be added later, according to the Miami Herald.

CrimeOnline previously reported that the fraternal twins, Milendhet and Milendhere G. Napoleon-Cadet, were found foaming at the mouth and nose in Alicime’s car, parked in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in North Miami. The twins were pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police arriving on the scene saw Alcime jump from a ramp to train tracks below. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Miami-Dade police announced Alcime’s arrest on Thursday, WTVJ said.  An arrest report said that she had been planning to kill the twins for two months “due to her current financial status and multiple debt(s) that she owes.”

The report says that Alcime drove around for some time that day to find a bridge from which to jump.

“The defendant admitted to contemplating jumping off the bridge with both victims or throwing them off one by one and then jumping to end their lives,” the report said.

Alcime parked on the highway, and a truck driver stopped to see if she needed help. She told him to call 911 because the children were unresponsive. He did so, then began to give the boy CPR while telling Alcime to do the same for the girl. Instead, she walked away and jumped as first responders arrived on the scene.

“The defendant admitted to walking away while both victims were foaming at the mouth, once she heard the police sirens,” the report says. “The defendant then jumped over the overpass bridge landing on the ground beneath to end her life.”

The report does not say what killed the children. It says that Alcime denied giving them anything when asked what she gave them, saying she didn’t know what happened to them.

Police say they are still awaiting toxicology results, the Herald said.

According to the twins’ father, they had no known medical issues.
