Mia Desiree Harris, 43, shot her five-month-old granddaughter in the face on December 9 in Liberty Township, Ohio

A five-month-old baby from Ohio miraculously survived after being shot in the face, with police claiming it was her grandmother who purposely fired the gun.

Mia Desiree Harris, 43, was indicted on Friday on five felonies after she allegedly shot her granddaughter Myra on December 9 in Liberty Township, Ohio –  approximately 25miles from Cincinnati.

Before she allegedly aimed the gun at the young child, Harris is claimed to have first fired the weapon at other family members and punched one in the face during an argument, according to court records.

The grandmother has been charged with four counts of felonies assault and one count of improperly discharging a firearm at or in habitation. She is being held at Butler County Jail on a $1.5million bond and is expected in court at 1pm on Tuesday.

Myra survived however she was recently sedated due to seizures and pressure on her brain, according to a GoFundMe page set up by her aunty TaMia Carter.

‘Please continue to keep her in your prayers. She’s fighting so hard,’ Carter wrote.

Prior to being shot, the baby was brought into a bedroom in an attempt to avoid the danger as Harris opened fire early that morning, it is alleged.

Harris, Myra’s paternal grandmother, is accused of firing a handgun though the bedroom door multiple times before going on to break the door down and aiming at the baby’s mother, but missed.

The accused allegedly went on to shoot the child in the face as she laid on the bed in the room.

The grandmother then fled the scene around 1.50am before she was pulled over on I-75 for driving in the opposite direction, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

Harris refused to pull over and eventually lead authorities back to the scene of the crime and drove back to the town house, where she was apprehended, police say.

Myra was immediately rushed to UC West Chester Hospital before she was flown to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She has undergone two surgeries and remains in critical condition.

In the chilling 911 call that the infant’s mother made the day of the gruesome attack, she said: ‘My baby’s been shot, my baby’s been shot.’

‘Someone shot your baby,’ the 911 operator responded.

‘Yes…Lord, please save my baby.’

Witnesses went on to confirm that Harris was the shooter. She also ‘made several admissions’ to investigators, Detective Daniel Turner said during a court testimony last month.

The grandmother told detectives that her family was attempting to ‘take all of her money and leave her’ and that she wasn’t going to let that happen.

‘They crucified her, so she crucified them,’ Turner said.

Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser told  Fox19 NOW: ‘Words do not do justice to the magnitude of the allegations.’

‘This case will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and I thank Sheriff Jones for his excellent investigation.’

At the beginning of the investigation, Jones said that the case was ‘one of the most disgusting, vile criminal acts’ that he’s ever seen.

‘What makes it even worse is this is the baby’s grandmother. The baby is handing onto life as we speak. It’s in God’s hands now.’

Donations from the GoFundMe page are set to pay for medical bills, a new home and help the child’s parents who aren’t working as they spend time with Myra.

A message from the infant’s mother was also included on the donation page.

‘I ask for no evil to be said I ask for peace and prayers. I ask that no one speak on this situation in a negative light. Mental health is so much bugger than what anyone talk about and please check up on the people around you and the people you love,’ the mother said.

‘My daughter was loved by the person that did this to her and we as the victims asked for no hate on any side be said.’

She then expressed that her main focus is supporting her child as her and her family try to navigate the challenging circumstances.
