A firefighter has died while battling a blaze that engulfed a suburban property.

Emergency crews were called to the house fire on Grose Vale Road in Gross Vale, in Sydney’s north-west, just before 8am on Tuesday. 

A 51-year-old man, who was on call with Fire and Rescue NSW, was part of the crew called out to extinguish the blaze.

He collapsed while fighting the inferno and paramedics performed CPR on him but could not revive the firefighter.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the incident has been launched. 

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Fire and Rescue NSW confirmed in a statement the man had died fighting the fire and said they were working with police in their investigation. 

‘Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) regrets to advise of the death of a firefighter at a house fire at Grose Vale, north-west of Sydney, this morning,’ the statement read.

‘FRNSW is working with other authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and also provide support to the man’s family, his crew, and the others impacted by this tragedy.’

‘Our condolences are with the firefighter’s family, friends and colleagues at this tragic time.’

Shocking footage captured thick plumes of smoke emerging from the property after the fire erupted. 

The fire was well alight inside the home with parts of two-storey property well alight.

More fire crews were seen arriving to help battle the blaze with a fire truck seen making it’s way up the road leading towards the home.  

The blaze appeared to be controlled by emergency services as they remained on the scene to monitor the situation.
