On Monday, a fifth set of human remains was reportedly found at a Nevada national park as the area continues to experience an unprecedented drought that has led to receding water levels.
Park rangers reportedly responded to Swim Beach, a small recreation site located at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. In an email to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the National Park Service said that the area had been cordoned off “to assess the discovery of skeletal remains found in the area.”
Additional details about Monday’s incident were not disclosed.
This is the fifth time since May that human remains have been recovered from Lake Mead. In addition to the skeletal remains found on Monday, remains were discovered at Swim Beach on August 6 and July 25.
On May 7, beachgoers found human remains at Callville Bay, which is also located at Lake Mead. Days earlier, on May 1, a man’s skeleton was discovered inside a barrel near Hemenway Harbor. The man is believed to be a murder victim who was fatally shot sometime in the mid-70s or 80s based on the clothing he was wearing.
Officials have not revealed any information about the sets of human remains found at Swim Beach and Callville Bay.
