Tot Reported Missing After Crash Kills Dad & Sister — But He Actually Vanished Months Earlier

Alabama officials reportedly had involvement with a missing 1-year-old boy’s family before a car wreck this month that killed his father and older sister.

Kahleb Collins was reported missing on December 9, a day after his father and 2-year-old sister were killed in a car wreck in Fayette County that left his mother hospitalized with serious injuries. Collins’ maternal great-aunt told WPMI that the father was “a sadistic, narcissist, evil person that preyed on a young woman” — presumably Collins’ mother.

While the Department of Human Resources confirmed they had been involved with Collins’ family, they could not provide specifics due to privacy concerns.

An investigation determined Collins was not in the December 8 crash and had vanished on September 4. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said the toddler’s parents were not wearing seatbelts, and their daughter was not in a car seat. They also concluded the father was driving 92 mph when he veered off the road and struck a tree — causing him to be ejected from the vehicle.

Days after the deadly wreck, Collins’ grandfather, John Bailey, 50, was arrested for failing to report Kahleb Collins’ disappearance. Authorities believe Collins was somehow injured and moved from his family home.

Collins’ whereabouts remain a mystery, including whether his case is being treated as a homicide. Meanwhile, Bailey remains jailed on $100,000 bail.
