An 18-year-old Michigan man pretending to be a Detroit police officer pulled over an off-duty cop from another jurisdiction earlier this year, and now he’s going to spend a year in jail.
Christian Mansoor flashed red and blue lights on his silver BMW after 11 p.m. on April 3 in Rochester Hills in an attempt to pull over the off-duty officer from Waterford Township.
Mansoor passed her, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said, so she followed him, WJBK reported at the time. When she confronted him a short distance away, Mansoor allegedly said he was with the 12th Precinct of the Detroit Police Department. She asked for identification, but when he said he had to go back to his car to get it, he drove away instead.
The Waterford officer followed him to a trailer park in Shelby Township, but lost sight of his car, WDIV said. On-duty police officers later found him switching the license plates from the BMW to another vehicle he owned. He allegedly ran away, but was soon captured.
“Individuals that pose as police officers present a threat to the public and undermine legitimate law enforcement,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “Thankfully, this individual was caught and is being held accountable for this incident. But if you had a similar incident with this described automobile or this pictured individual, please contact us.”

Mansoor was arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of impersonating a police officer and sentenced to a year in jail on Thursday.
