A chilling photograph has emerged of killer nurse Lucy Letby comforting a newborn as she poses as a poster girl for the Countess of Chester Hospital.
Smiling broadly in her blue nurses’ uniform, the convicted killer leans over the baby in a hospital cot with her hand placed on its stomach.
The image of Letby was emblazoned across an entire page in the 2012-2013 annual report for the Trust in Cheshire.
Ironically, the report boasts about the Trust being among just a few in the country which have achieved the highest levels of ‘safe care’.
This was not the only time the killer was used as a poster girl for the NHS – in 2013 she appeared on material promoting the hospital’s BabyGrow appeal raising funds for a new neonatal unit.

In a staff profile piece promoting the department she said: ‘My role involves caring for a wide range of babies requiring various levels of support.
‘Some are here for a few days, others for many months and I enjoy seeing them progress and supporting their families.’
Letby, 33, was sentenced to spend the rest of her life in prison last month for killing seven babies and trying to murder six more between 2015 and 2016.
Cheshire Police is now investigating whether Letby was already harming infants at the time the chilling image was taken.
It comes as a mother who discovered a photo of the murderer with her poorly baby at his christening called for his death to be examined again.
Emily Morris’s one-month-old Alvin was being treated at the unit where Letby worked at the Countess of Chester in 2013.
She said Letby had told her Alvin’s condition was deteriorating the night before he died and said it is almost like ‘she was hinting that she did something’.
Ms Morris, 35, from Deeside, Flintshire, said the photo left her feeling ‘sickened’ and called for the death of her baby to be reinvestigated after police concluded in 2018 that there were no suspicious circumstances.
Both Ms Morris and Alvin’s stepfather Mark Lewis saw the photo for the first time this week after it was found stored on a disc in a memory box that they were previously unable to download.

The couple have spoken of their horror of discovering the image of the killer fussing over the baby.
‘It shocked us. It’s really hard, to see a person who has done that to those babies next to you. It makes you sick,’ said Ms Morris.
‘You can see she is grabbing his blanket. I have told everybody that she did that and now there’s proof. That’s proof that she was with him.’
Ms Morris added that Letby had written a message inside her child’s christening book which read: ‘To Alvin, with love on your special day.’
She told the Daily Mail: ‘It’s freaky. It makes you feel ill looking at it.’
Ms Morris first noticed Letby’s strange behaviour around Alvin, who had been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, during the christening which took place at the hospital.
She said the nurse was constantly trying to touch him and lean over him during the intimate ceremony.
‘Lucy Letby told us Alvin was deteriorating the night before he died. In the morning he was dead which is weird. It’s like she was hinting that she did something,’ she recalled.
‘She had him the night before… We’re saying it’s suspicious. It’s weird. She must’ve done something.’

Det Supt Paul Hughes of Cheshire Police said the force was ‘committed to a complete and thorough investigation into the full period of time that Lucy Letby was employed as a nurse’.
‘This investigation remains ongoing, through a transparent and open-minded process,’ he said.
‘The families of all babies, who are part of this investigation, have been informed and are supported. We will of course provide a more detailed update when we can.’
The UK’s Department of Health and Social Care has ordered an independent inquiry into the circumstances around the deaths and how Letby was able to carry out her killing spree.
