Disturbing Clown Rattles Scottish Village: ‘Just wants to play’

A social media user posting images of a scary-looking clown stalking a Scottish community has prompted concern from some residents, who say the bizarre online behavior is disturbing.

“Whoever this is they are scaring everybody – he needs to be stopped,” an area father told the Independent. “Someone needs to have a word with him before the police get involved or he really terrifies someone. He could give someone a heart attack.”

The user has posted photos of a red-haired clown holding a red balloon and posing in the dark of night throughout the community of Skelmorlie, about 35 miles from Glasgow.

The clown, which appears to mimic Stephen King’s famous horror “Pennywise the Dancing Clown,” has reportedly been leaving red balloons throughout the village, according to Sky News.

“Well, well, well, I’ve made the news again. Should I smile for the cameras with my hideous grin?” the social media user said using a distorted voice in a video uploaded to Facebook.

A biography posted to the account claims that the clown hails from Hell, Michigan, a real township, and also attended Hellgate High School in Montana, a real high school.

Although authorities in Scotland say they know the videos exist, the clown was unmoved.

“‘The police have been informed,’ do you think that I care? They’d have to catch me first anyway, and yes, that’s a dare,” the clown says in one video, according to Sky News.

“Don’t believe what you are told. This clown doesn’t want fame, glory or gold, he just wants to play, in this so-called sleepy town. So come and join in and learn to fear The Skelmorlie Clown.”

Social media users, however, have mixed opinions.

“Bout as scary as soggy pasta,” one user wrote.

Said another: “This is awesome! What a joy to see such a trick or treat!”

A similar “creepy clown” trend went viral on social media in 2016.
