Disabled Girl Found Mummified in Stroller, Left in Closet by Mom Who Said Life Was ‘Too Much’

A Georgia woman who killed her disabled 7-year-old daughter in 2023 by abandoning her in a closet was sentenced on Wednesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Alivia Jordan was found mummified and strapped in her stroller at a DeKalb County apartment four months after her mother moved out. The mother, Alondra Hobbs, 29, told cops that she left Jordan in a closet before moving out, according to WANF.

Jordan was autistic, had cerebral palsy, and suffered from seizures. Her mother told police that she essentially left her daughter to die in the closet because her life was “too much.”

WSB-TV reported that Jordan’s body was in the closet for four months before it was discovered. A man reported smelling a foul odor coming from the closet before finding the body.

Prosecutors said Hobbs continued to collect $900 monthly disability checks intended for her daughter despite abandoning her months earlier, according to Law & Crime.

Hobbs was charged five days after her daughter’s body was discovered in 2023. Years later, she agreed to plead guilty to malice murder, felony murder, and first-degree cruelty to children.

“Alivia Jordan did not deserve the slow, painful, and lonely death she suffered at the hands of her mother,” DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston said in a press release. “I extend my deepest condolences to her family and I hope that they take some comfort in knowing Alondra Hobbs is being held accountable for her actions. I want parents to know that abandoning a child is never the right choice.”
