A woman who had been stalking A.V. Rockwell pleaded guilty this week to killing entertainment consultant Michael Latt last year in a home invasion.
Prosecutors charged Jameelah Elena Michl, 36, with murder and burglary in the November 27 shooting of Michael Latt, saying that she targeted Latt because he was friends with Rockwell, as CrimeOnline reported.
Court documents said that Rockwell had filed a restraining order in June against Michl, who was an extra in her debut feature film, “A Thousand And One,”
Michl admitted in court on Monday that she forced her way into Latt’s house and shot him with a semi-automatic handgun, The Associated Press said. She faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, with no parole for 25 years, at her sentencing on July 10.
Latt, 33, was a popular and high-profile consultant and had worked with such luminaries as “Selma” director Ava DuVerney and “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler.
His mother, Michelle Satter, is a founding director of the Sundance Institute who received an honorary Oscar for her humanitarian work just weeks after her son’s death. She told the audience in accepting the award she wanted to share it with Latt, who always “led with love.”
