‘Did She Die?’: Indiana Man Allegedly Stabs Ex-Girlfriend More Than 20 Times

An Indiana man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend more than 20 times as she walked in to Muncie apartment building Wednesday night.

Keywine Gibson Jr., 22, has been charged with attempted murder, battery, and other charges and reportedly asked officers, “Did she die?” when they took him into custody, WXIN reported.

Police said they were called to the apartment complex just after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The caller said a woman was screaming and man had run away from the area. Officers eventually found the woman at Indiana University Ball Memorial Hospital.

She told investigators she had come home from buying groceries and saw a man standing near bushes by her unit, court docuements say. As she went the stairs, she heard him behind her. She stopped and turned around to see her ex-boyfriend, Gibson, running toward her with a gun.

She said Gibson pointed the gun at her but put it away, pulled out a knife, and began stabbing her.

Authorities said the woman ended up with 32 staples in the back of her head to close stab wounds and had cuts on her chest, armpits, neck, back, and shoulders.

The victim said she had broken up with Gibson about a week earlier.

Later in the night, Gibson’s roommate called and said he had confessed to stabbing his ex-girlfriend. Police arrived and found Gibson’s car parked outside with a knife inside covered in suspected blood.

Gibson was arrested and brought in for questioning. After being read his Miranda rights, he asked if his ex survived. He told police he had a large gap in his memory and did not remember what he did.

He was booked into the Delaware County Jail on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, domestic battery with a deadly weapon, and pointing a firearm. He is being held on an $80,000 bail.
