‘Devoted Father’ and US Vet Stabbed Dead on New Year’s Eve

Arrests have been made after a US military veteran and “devoted father” died on New Year’s Eve following a stabbing incident.

According to a press release from the Birmingham Police Department on Tuesday, Earnest Christion Jr., 68, was stabbed to death at his home in the 2500 block of 15th Street Ensley in Birmingham, Alabama.

West Precinct officers arrived at Christion’s home after 7 p.m. and discovered him unresponsive with what appeared to be a stab wound.

The victim was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

FOX News Digital reported that an arrest warrant was obtained on Saturday for Zingy Gamble, 60, and her son, La Verne Gamble, 40, following tips from the community.

At the time of the stabbing, Zingy Gamble and Christion were dating, according to law enforcement. The stabbing is believed to have resulted from an argument concerning money.

Both Zingy Gamble and her son La Verne Gamble have been arrested for murder, with a bond set at $15,000. They are currently in custody at the Jefferson County Jail.

The Christion family remembered the veteran, affectionately nicknamed “Rickey,” as a devoted father and a “beacon of joy” known for his infectious humor.

“Rickey was more than just a veteran; he was a beacon of joy and love,” a statement from his family said.

“His sense of humor was infectious, and his ability to keep people smiling, even during difficult times, will always be remembered,” the family added. “Whether it was a funny joke, a lighthearted comment, or his unwavering positivity, Rickey had a special gift for making those around him feel good.”

“His family was the center of his world, and he cherished each and every moment spent with them,” they continued. “His love for his children was unconditional, and he took immense pride in being a devoted father.”
